Growing & Going

Nursery Ministry

WELCOME TO THE NURSERY!

Your child is precious to us and will receive individual attention while in our care. We set an example for your child by sharing God’s love and joy in our words, actions, and expressions. A simple curriculum is taught each week and we consider it a privilege to participate in forming your child’s earliest impressions of our wonderful God.

CARING FOR YOUR BABY

The nursery consists of two rooms:

Baby room - for infants and crawlers

Toddler room - for babies who are walking

Every room in the nursery is staffed with a minimum of two volunteers. We strive to keep the following: our baby room maintains a ratio of one adult for every three infants and crawlers. Our toddler room maintains a ratio of one adult for every four toddlers.

Our Nursery classrooms are located in Education building. Once inside the Nursery, you will be welcomed by a volunteer. Please give any special instructions concerning your child to the volunteer and inform them of any particular needs your child may have.

We request that parents keep feedings simple and feeding times flexible. A bottle to comfort a fussy baby is appropriate, but a meal of solid food is best handled by parents.

Snacks are given from time-to-time so if your child has a food allergy, please alert us of this when you bring your child to the appropriate Nursery room.

Mission Statement                                                                                                                                                              Starting Blocks is a ministry for newborns - Kindergarteners at FBCW. Our goal is to partner with parents in nurturing the first crucial years by teaching basic Bible truths and providing a loving environment at the church that reflects the enduring love of our father in heaven. Every Sunday, we teach God's Word through crafts, Bible stories, singing, and group interaction. Our goal is to care for babies, showing them God's love in a safe and clean environment.

Drop-off/Pick-up:

  • Check your child in using the table located in the hall of the Education Building.
  • Place the name tag on your child’s back and keep the pick-up tag.
  • Personally take your child to the classroom printed on his/her name tag.
  • You’ll receive a pager when you drop off your first child. If you’re checking in multiple children, give the pager number to each teacher.
  • Return to the same classroom to pick up your child.
  • Give the teacher your pager and pick-up tag.

What to Expect on Your Visit

What to Bring
When packing a diaper bag for your child, please include the following items:

  1. Two or three disposable diapers. No cloth diapers, please.

  2. Pacifier or other item, should your child need it for security.

  3. A complete change of clothes in case your child would require that.

  4. A bottle of milk, formula, juice or water. (This is a good practice even for mothers who nurse.)

Please label all personal items with your child's first and last name before arriving at your child's class. This helps us keep track of your child's items.

Your Child's Health
We operate a well-baby program. For the protection of all the children in our ministry we cannot accept a child with a runny nose, fresh cold (four days or less), fever (in the past 24 hours), rash, persistent cough, diarrhea or any other signs of illness. We request that you not place your child in the program while they are at risk of exposing other children. Thank you in advance for helping us keep our program a healthy place for all.

Saying Good-bye
After you have completed the check-in process, simply wave a quick good-bye and leave for the worship service. As you know, it is normal for little ones to cry when leaving a parent. This does not last long, and separation becomes easier over time. Our leaders will immediately try to create interest in a toy or activity and give assurance that you will return after the worship service is completed. If your child cries for an extended period of time, we will page you.

Checking On Your Child
Feel free to check on your little one at any time during the worship service. However, we ask that you do so discreetly, trying not to let your child see you. You may use one of our three two-way mirrors in the hallways.
